With love, respect, and gratitude, we dedicate this special achievement to our beloved Ustad Ji, Hazuri Baba Sham Singh Ji.
For many years, the Saranda was becoming a forgotten instrument. Even though it has always been an important part of Gurmat Sangeet, very few people continued to play or preserve it. In Indian classical music too, the Saranda had almost disappeared with time.
Today, history has been created through the hard work, dedication, and passion of Ustad Shaminder Pal Singh Ji. Known as the first Sikh Top Grade Sarangi player, Ustad Ji has now achieved another proud milestone for Gurmat Sangeet and Indian classical music.
For the very first time, the Saranda has officially been added to the instrument list of All India Radio. This is a proud and emotional moment for everyone connected to Gurmat Sangeet and Punjabi musical heritage.
With the blessings of Dhan Guru Arjan Dev Ji, and the support of respected gurus, elders, and parents, Ustad Shaminder Pal Singh Ji has also become the first graded Saranda player in the history of Indian classical music and Gurmat Sangeet.
This beautiful achievement has been appreciated and celebrated by many respected Panthic Gunijan and Vidvaan Ragis, including Raag Kala Samrat Ustad Bhai Gurmeet Singh Shant Ji, Bhai Sarbjeet Singh Ladi Ji, Bhai Anantvir Singh Ji (LA), and Ustad Sukhwant Singh Ji. Their blessings and kind words are a big encouragement for preserving the Guru’s musical tradition.
We sincerely thank All India Radio Jalandhar for taking this meaningful step and giving recognition to this rare and soulful instrument.
May this historic moment inspire the younger generation to learn, preserve, and proudly carry forward the rich tradition of the Saranda for years to come.
Ustad Shaminder Pal Singh Ji
